identi.ca support please
where is the identi.ca/laconica support?
Yoono is great, but you're missing a big part of the social aggregation space.

Inappropriate?I might be interested once it supports laconica-based sites (such as identi.ca) - please let me know when you support that.
You know, of course, that laconica software has a Twitter-compatible API? Snc eyou already support Twitter, supporting Laconica sites is a doddle.

I’m sad that Lacinica isn't supported yet
-
Inappropriate?I really like yoono but its lacking support for identi.ca/laconica is just making me sad.
Supporting identi.ca/laconica should be such an easy task as it is so similar to twitter. Supporting this decentral alternative to twitter is just a must have! But you have done just nothing in the last 4 months, not even an anouncement. Just a standard "Thanks for supporting, we will consider ...".
I’m frustrated

Hi Steffen.
Yes I see where you're coming from. To be clear and concise, we have received over 300 Idea Suggestions in the past 4 months. I've personally replied to all of them. We look at and investigate all of them and rarely do we mark something as "rejected". No one at Yoono has decided that supporting this network is a bad idea or won't ever happen. However, our application appeals to and is used by many groups of people and Identi.ca is still a small subset of users compared to other networks that we've been asked to add such as LinkedIN.
So while I can't guarantee we'll ever add it, we've never said that we won't and we try to do what's best for our userbase as a whole which usually means improving the current product first and not adding many features that will only appeal to a niche group. I'm sorry you're frustrated. -
Inappropriate?Do I hear "plug-in api" for your plugin? ;-p Let us help.
I think the frustrating part is that Laconica/Status.net is supposed to have a Twitter-compatible api. In theory, the work is already done.
I’m confident
-
That's exactly the point. When the integration is so easy, why not just doing it?
A "Plug-in API" would be really cool though. I think there would be many developers out there happily contributing to it. I understand yoonos point, that supporting small networks is a minor issue. A Plug-In-API could help in this situation. -
Inappropriate?Dan and Steffan -
We hear you. As you know, everything is work even if some things are less work than others. Our list of to-do's is long and of course we have to prioritize them and focus on the stuff that provides the biggest benefit to the biggest set of users. We understand that the apis here are similar to Twitter so that will help obviously. We want to support a broad variety of networks, but just can't give a specific timeframe for individual networks as we just don't know at this point. As a user myself, I know that can be frustrating.
Given the number of requests we get to add different networks and our limited resources as a small company, we absolutely have discussed and would like to build an open plug in api that developers could use to add their favorite networks. It is a great idea. Hopefully we can provide something like this sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we appreciate your enthusiasm and patience!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Adding the word StatusNet to this topic, for search purposes ... still, http://support.yoono.com/yoono/search... does not find the topic.
Please, could the OP (or an administrator) edit the title of the topic to include the new name? Thanks.

Did identica change its name to statusnet? -
No, identi.ca uses the status.net (former laconica) software/api. status.net is an open and distributed status message network. -
I see. So you're suggesting adding support for Status.net which pretty much adds support for identica. sorry for the confusion, wasn't sure if you were asking for something different. I'm not on the dev team so there was a bit of confusion. -
Inappropriate?StatusNet without the . dot
http://status.net/2009/08/28/laconica...
status.net is a site, not the network.
StatusNet implements the OpenMicroBlogging protocol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMicr... -
Inappropriate?OK, in a row, to hopefully take away all confusion:
- StatusNet, Inc. is a company - see http://status.net/2009/10/27/statusne...
- they create the microblogging software called StatusNet
- they provide a service called identi.ca running the StatusNet software - see http://status.net/wiki/Main_Page
- they provide a service called status.net providing hosting for StatusNet instances (see PR above)
- StatusNet software (formerly called Laconica) implements the OMB protocol - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMicr... - which makes all StatusNet instances federated: members of one site can siubscribe to members of another; some other services/software also implement OMB, so members of such a site can subscribe to members of identi.ca, for instance (and vice versa)
- the API of the StatusNet software is compatible with the Twitter API: this means that any tool that implements the Twitter API can easily be adapted to implement the StatusNet API as well, and thus support a host of other sites, including identi.ca; this is what is referred to with the request from the OP: just replace "identi.ca/laconica support" with "identi.ca/StatusNet support" (because of the name change of the software)
As to the long list of to-do's: there is such a thing as a quick win: with very little effort you can support a host of other sites: see http://status.net/wiki/ListOfServers
I hope this helps...
I’m getting a little ... um ... concerned
-
Good morning. I appreciate your follow up and informative reply. I'll pass this on to the team. -
Inappropriate?Yoono is great, but I would like to see support for www.identi.ca added. It's and open source twitter like service, so adding support for it shouldn't be a problem.
